Unexpected gifts versus expected gifts

Which is better, unexpected gifts or those we expect? Tough call I think. I love the build up to a celebration whether I'm the giver or the receiver. But for now let's think as the receiver. The fluttery bubble of anticipation that gurgles around inside making you smile every so often. The warm fuzzy feelings of longing and desire as you ponder the possible presents about to head your way. It's such a pleasant sense of anticipation, moments that can last much longer than the day itself.

But then again the glorious rush, like the fizz of champagne at something unexpected. The fireworks of joy of knowing someone out there cares when you weren't expected it. That's pretty heady stuff too. You feel as though you're glowing, all that kindness.
What do you all think? Would you rather have something unexpected? Let me know.

I love both, perhaps I'm just greedy. Tee hee! I love the anticipation of expected gifts but absolutely love surpise ones too!

I just love surprises - giving and receiving, but I also love the build up especially at Christmas with presents just sitting there waiting to be opened! It's my birthday soon and I am getting quite excited

I always love to receive the unexpected - but as long as its GOOD!!

I drive my other half mad by saying "Something lovely that is a surprise" whenever he asks me what I'd like for birthday or Christmas. But he should know after 11 years that I am never going to tell him what to get me!!

Thanks for your kind comments on my blog. Its good to know I am not hte only person who has impossible-to-find safe places.

Ooo...that's a tough one, for sure! I think I would have to go with the unexpected ones, only because then there is no anticipation (read special occasion), which means that the giver simply wanted to give you a gift because you were on their mind. That makes the gift that much better in my book.
