Sad News

We lost one of our beautiful pups on Sunday night. She was the smallest and had been losing weight despite two hourly hand feeding. It was so sad but we finally had to let her go and realise that perhaps nature knew best. We tried our hardest. it was so difficult to realise that all we had done was simply not enough to give her what she needed to thrive. I wonder whether all we did was delay the inevitable. The four boys however are all doing well and growing plump and cuddly.

Soft fur
barely breathing,
a fight for life that was not to be,
deaf and blind to all
fragile in your struggle
too weak to try
asleep forever

I think nature does know best. We lost many 'runts' of the litter when I lived on a pig farm. I think starting off with problems would have led to more of a struggle growing up. Saying this, it is very sad to experience and witness this. The poem you have written is very thought provoking. I hope the four boys carry on getting plumper and cuddlier by the minute. x

Oh I'm so sorry ... that is sad :-(

Here's hoping the four boys thrive - I look forward to hearing all about it, and seeing the pictures.

This, of course, is so very sad. I think that your poem was a lovely way to say goodbye.

Sorry you lost a puppy. Is the Mommy a Shih Tzu? She looks exactly like my dog Buster!

I am so sorry for the loss of the little girl. Must have broken your heart. But there are four little plump and cuddly boys who will carry on the memory of their little sister!

Do keep us updated with pictures of the little men!

That's hard - even if it is just nature taking it's course.

So sorry to hear this sad news. I was heart broken and cried on and off all day when I lost little Maddy. Nature does know best and I am sure nobody could have looked after her any better than you did.
Your poem made me a little upset - my emotions are a bit high lately!
Take care and love to the boys.

I agree with the first comment that nature does know best. Chin up and enjoy the others.

Hugs.
