Earthquake update

Watching the news makes me feel so helpless. The devastation suffered by Christchurch continues to unfold before our eyes and each passing moment reveals the true horror being faced by people just like me. It seems so hard to carry on our normal everyday lives, it seems somehow wrong to take up a piece of knitting when others are so desperately trying to pick up the pieces of their lives, to reknit the fabric of their being. How can I even contemplate making rows upon rows of stitches when my fellow countrymen are without even the basics.
It will take years for the city too recover and it will never quite be the same again, the people will be changed forever by the experience.
For the rest of the country we can only watch and pray, doing what little we can to ease their pain knowing that it is not enough, that nothing could ever actually be enough.

Thank you for that post. That's how I feel when I read the email updates from my relatives in Christchurch. Oh, I am so grateful they are alive, but there's so little I can do from here to help.

Ally, I can only imagine the horror and pain right now. It might comfort you to pick up your needles and knit row after row to shape a warm afghan for someone who will be needing it to wrap up in and stay warm in the next few weeks.

Thanks for dropping by my blog Ally, Willow has a great idea there about knitting an afghan. As for your neighbours forget the peace offering about your building work just let them know what is happening. We've been very accomodating and allowed the builders to work in our garden and allsorts of things. However, we are having to chase our neighbours to find out when they will be making a LOT of noise, and as I mentioned the timescale they gave us was totally wrong. My neighbours are taking their children to their grandparents to escape the noise, I don't have that option so my 5 year old is having to lump it. Consideration is a two way street. I'm not a happy Twiggy x

Thoughts and prayer to those affected by the earthquake and for those helping in the recovery.

Sometimes I knit when feeling helpless. I knit in meditation and thanksgiving.

Hugs, Bonnie

Many thanks for visiting my blog today. I like to look back at the work I do and maybe get more ideas.

Two friends of mine visited the lovely Church in Christchurch the day before the earthquake. I believe that they were actually on their flight back when the earth quake struck. They were very lucky when many others were not. There seems to be so much heart ache at the moment. First Australia and the floods now New Zealand. My thoughts are with those in New Zealand from Cornwall.

That's one thing that's always bothered me about blogging. Blogging seems so frivolous when others are suffering. And someone is always suffering somewhere -- be it a job loss, a death in the family, or an earthquake. We still go on, but it doesn't mean we don't care.

We're thinking of your countrymen here in the states as well. Don't underestimate the power of your prayers, joined with thousands of others!!
