Your opinion please
I am well aware of the saying that if you knit a boyfriend a sweater/jumper he won't be your boyfriend for long and wondered whether my bloggy mates might be able to help with a dilemma around this theme. Cute neighbour guy who has been a constant in my life for the last 10 weeks would really, really like me to knit him a sweater. I have shared the superstition with him which he believes to be utter tosh and part of me goes along with him. BUT.. do I want to tempt fate and go ahead and knit him one!! I know it would be a test of faith to do so, after all I believe this was meant to be and it is all working so nicely that truth be told I would be a bit upset should it suddenly fizzle out. Yet if it's going to last then it will regardless of a jumper, won't it? So I was just wondering whether anyone can help. he doesn't want socks or a beanie. Do I say fiddlesticks to superstition, I laugh in the face of such foolishness ha ha, or do I bow to the weight of those who have gone before and already wept their tears?

I knitted my boyfriend a sweater, he's now been my husband for 35 years. Go ahead a sweater will make no difference.
Ooo...tricky choice...LOL! I've not had a problem with the boyfriend-sweater syndrome myself either. So go for it! If you are feeling unsure though socks or a scarf in the meantime would be excellent knitwear pieces to ease into your budding relationship. Maybe give to Christmas and then knit the sweater as a surprise gift? Do keep us posted! ;o) Happy Days, my friend... Thanks for stopping in at my place. :o) ((HUGS))
Ooooh, what a dilemma! I had a whole response typed up but erased it 'cause it made no sense -- my explanation doesn't work through typed words. I say follow your heart! (Could it be that he's testing you to see how much he means to you???)
I knitted my boyfriend a sweater too. We've been married now for almost 21 wonderful years. He still has the sweater. :)
Knit him the sweater!
Life's too short to waste on a superstition.
The man WANTS a sweater. Knit him one. The Knight doesn't wear sweaters, so he's asked for socks, afghans and washcloths.
if he's asked for a sweater - knit him one!
it could be his way of making sure he stays close to you ;-)
April xx
I would stick to it and knit him the sweater. If it is meant to be it will be. Go for it! :)

I've never heard that one but I think it would be the opposite, an expression of love, and if he's asked for one I'd go ahead!!! Maybe its only if you knit one without it being requested!!
if you like knitting sweaters, i say do it! i don't like knitting that much so it would be my luck that it wouldn't work out.
I think perhaps that superstition was circulated by the unlucky 1% of women who have loved, knitted and lost. The other 99% are keeping their mouths shut. Knit away!
I was already married to mine before I knit him a sweater- but it didn't drive him away... ;-)
I knit a jumper for my boyfriend and it ended up so big it's not funny. Suffice to say he never wore it, but we've been together 17 years. Pulled it out the other day and we giggled over just how ridiculously big it was. There's no way I knit a tension/gauge swatch and there's no way I measured him up properly either. LOL My only excuse is I was young, not even 20 at the time!! Good luck with yours and may I suggest a gauge swatch and some serious measuring!!
Knit for him on the promise that if all goes wrong you can frog the sweater and make it into something else!!! I think it would be great. there are some lovely patterns about for men.
I hope you've already cast on...;-D
I can't knit, but I once shrunk my OH's best wool fishing jumper to toddler size! He forgave me, and we're still together after all these years. x
definitely knit one... the difference here is that he actually asked for one. I think this rule only applies if the recepient didn't ask for a knitted sweater :)
I wouldnt knit him a sweater....but what about a vest !!
Men like vests, and I havent heard about any vest curses...
Yes, you should do it. Knit, knit, knit!
oh...knit the sweater...HE wants it...do it...
if your cute guy has asked for a sweater he must be special. I knitted mine a sweater and he still has it and in the depths of winter wears it, we've been together for 16 years and married for 13 of those and my one and only hand knitted sweater for him is treasured. Jane x
I see you have settled on a sleeveless vest.
For what it's worth, I think it's a bit early in the friendship to be knitting a sweater. I might have opted for a scarf. On the other hand, my parents got married after 3 months so I suppose it depends on the individuals.
