Comfort food

I know Easter has hardly crept around the corner and the mountain of Chocolate hasn't even got a slight dent in yet but all the images of snow from the UK bloggers set me thinking about food. It doesn't take much to get me thinking about food but this was comfort food, the sort you love to eat when it's cold outside, or miserable inside, the food that never fails to bring a smile to your lips and cheers to your stomach. The food that lifts you when you're just that bit low. It goes without saying that chocolate of any kind is top of the list.

So for me it has to be rice pudding. That's number one on my list of comfort foods. I love the texture and the taste, and the sheer milky creaminess of it, with or without rasins and sprinkled with a dash of nutmeg. Yum yum.

Number two would be crumpets. Hot toasted crumpets with more butter than is good for you. Butter that melts into the crumpets and oozes into a yellowy puddle on the plate.

Nothing beats being able to curl up with a good book, a piece of knitting, the cat on my lap and the dog at my feet, in front of a real fire and a plate of hot buttery crumpets. How could I not feel better?

So what's your ultimate comfort food? What food makes you smile?

You hit it right for me...crumpets and proper butter!! Thats my comfort food! Nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa, under a blanket, with the snow howling outside and watching an old classic. Magical.

Of course here in NZ the equivilent is sweating a lot whilst making them and then being terribly uncomfortable whilst eating them on the leather sofa!

Thanks for coming to our blog, to answer your question - no we would not swap it for the UK!!

mmmmmm, now I'm really hungry!

I know I'm weird, but during winter I find a homemade stew a very comforting meal - warming and delicious.

(Regarding your PIF Alison - normally I'd be straight in there, but I have 'stuff' on the agenda at the moment that means I can't do any swaps or PIFs until I've sorted it all out).

Take care. x

Hey Alison, how come you still have mountains of chocolate in your house, ours is nearly all gone! I think you've hit on the best comfort food there could be - crumpets with butter. Thank you for your lovely comments about my blog, I try to make it the kind of blog I would like to visit myself.
best wishes,
Lucy x

It's odd that you should be asking this as I was thinking about comfort food this morning!
Chocolate, hot buttered toast, & bread & butter pudding with custard would have to be my choices.
